Team Staff

In the premier games you can build a backroom team: a coach, a physio, a doctor, a scout, a groundsman and a youth coach. Good staff make a real difference, from fewer injuries to a team that plays better in your favourite formation. You will find them under Club > Club Staff.

Hiring staff

Each week a few people apply to work for your club, and they are listed on the staff page with their job and rating. Hire the ones you want that week: applicants you do not hire move on, and a new set arrives the next week. A club with few staff gets more applicants.

You can employ one person in each job. The rating, out of 100, shows how good someone is: the higher it is, the bigger the difference they make. Better staff are drawn to bigger clubs, so the best applicants go to clubs in the higher divisions.

What each job does

  • Coach helps your players improve in training, and lifts your team in matches. Each coach has a favourite formation and a favourite tactic: play them and the lift is about three times as big.
  • Physio helps your players recover their fitness each week, gets players who come back from injury fitter sooner, and makes it less likely that a knock picked up in a match becomes an injury.
  • Doctor gets injured players back sooner, and also stops some knocks from becoming injuries. With a doctor, you can also see each player's medical history.
  • Scout finds international players for you to sign, adding a few to your club's scouting list each week, and keeps an eye on the players on your shortlist, reporting back on their qualities. Without a scout you cannot sign players from the international market.
  • Groundsman keeps your pitch in good condition, so it wears less with each home match, and lets you re-lay the pitch when it is worn. A better groundsman re-lays it for less.
  • Youth coach helps your academy bring through better youth players: see Youth Squad.

Wages

Staff are paid a yearly salary, taken from your balance a week at a time. Better staff cost more. Their salary does not change, and there is no contract: they stay until you let them go or they move on.

Letting staff go

You can sack a member of staff at any time, but you must pay them a quarter of their yearly salary, and you cannot sack them if you cannot afford it.

Staff can also leave of their own accord at the end of a season: some move on to other clubs, and older staff retire. A retiring member of staff tells you a season in advance, so you have time to find a replacement.
